This video installation consists of an accordion-folded aluminum screen (300 folds of 10 mm) and 2 video projectors. The folding of the screen allows a simultaneous double projection showing at the same time two aspects of the same situation, according to the physical point of view of the spectator. At each end of the screen (at 45° to the screen), the viewer sees a different sequence. By transforming in front of the screen, the viewer experiences the transition from one scene to another. The two projections are linked.
The main theme of this project is directly related to current conflicts. The incessant flow of information that we receive can only question us. This installation questions our positioning through the relativity of the notion of point of view.
From the film «The Battleship Potemkin» by Sergei Eisenstein, a sequence was selected in its entirety (The «Odessa Steps», 5 min), disassembled and reassembled into two separate sequences. By isolating the imperial guard on one side and the massacred population of Odessa on the other, the spectator experiences a “decantation” of points of view; that of the executioners or that of the victims.
The «Battleship Potemkin» is in the public domain.
