XXX, 2001

Using as a basis de Sade’s Justine, but placing the action of the play in the present day, XXX is about the perversion of a young girl called Eugenie by a group of libertines.  Madame Lula, retired porno star and sensualist, a calculating and manipulating   woman, is the instigator of the sexual initiation of the innocent Eugenie. In this project,  she is accompanied by Dolmancé, a philosophical and intellectual being, who is the closest approximation in the play to de Sade himself. Dolmancé is the cruellest, the cleverest and the most selfish of the characters. Also present is Giovanni, Madame Lula’s brother, as well as her incestuous lover. Giovanni is obsessed with his sister, who is the only person capable of satisfying his narcissistic desires.

These four characters, along with a dressing table, a bed and a gigantic screen, are the motor that drives this spectacle of the corruption of innocence, of perversion and madness – a typically Fura manifestation of different theatrical media that offered a new, groundbreaking approach to erotic themes.

It has become customary for La Fura to mix different media in their work. Here, theatre,  literature, music and the Internet combine to give life to a single body: the play. But in  XXX, La Fura takes this one step further: the dialogues of the performers interact directly with projections from websites, containing videos, sound and graphics and other familiar aspects that allow us to surf on the web. These projections are used to reinforce and synthesise key concepts of the play, as well as energising and updating  an original text written by one of the most lucid and controversial figures of the XVIIIth  Century.
